4 Urgency Drivers to Maximize Marketing Responses

It’s a fact. Adding a sense of urgency to your copy will give your marketing responses a big boost. Here are four ways to do that …

1. At the end

Obviously, it’s important that you end an ad or letter by asking the person to respond.

2. P.S.

With direct mail or online sales letters, feature a P.S. that reminds them of the urgency of the offer. Also mention again (in a different way) what their lives will be like if they don’t respond to the offer. In both our Direct Mail and our Website Copywriting Courses we talk in depth about the power of the P.S.

3. Handwritten margin notes

With direct mail, write a hand-written reminder in the margin of the letter. This attracts attention and the hand-written element has a sense of urgency about it. The sense of urgency happens because the reader perceives that the writer included it as an afterthought … that they didn’t have the time to type it into the body of the letter.

See the magic in that?

4. On the response device

On a response device make the heading “Urgent Fax Back Request” or “Priority Order Form”. This gives the impression of urgency and also makes people feel that they’ll receive a prompt response to their reply.
