Being systemised isn’t something that comes naturally to me.
Back in the early 90’s when I first kicked off as a copywriter, I liked the freedom of being spontaneous. Sure, I followed the formula but I thought that being restricted by rigid systems would take the “heart” out of my writing.
I was both wrong AND right.
I soon realised that following a system gave me MORE FREEDOM. I realised too that being focused on the steps and IN THE NOW, made me a better, faster writer.
The result: more sales for my clients, more income for me but just as importantly, my clients were able to make a difference to the lives of more people (their customers).
Here’s where my early thinking about systems was RIGHT …
A system followed in the wrong way actually CAN take the heart out of what you do. At the end of the day it’s your HEART that is by far your most powerful gift as a copywriter so be VERY AWARE of who you are being when you follow a system. (I’ll talk more about that later when I discuss the “MISSING ELEMENT”) .
